Let's talk about storms on Monday and Tuesday.

Hey y’all — deep breath. Let’s talk about the storms headed our way this Monday and Tuesday, May 19–20. If you deal with storm anxiety, I promise you're not alone. You’re in good company here, and we’re going to walk through this calmly and clearly — with a little good-natured honesty along the way.

🌩 MONDAY: Storms Possible, But Not a Widespread Outbreak

Take a peek at that first image. That’s our Severe Weather Outlook for Monday, May 19, straight from our friends at NWS Nashville.

  • Most of the area is under a Level 1 (Marginal Risk) — shaded in green.

  • A chunk of Middle TN and down into southern counties is in a Level 2 (Slight Risk) — shaded yellow.

🟡 What does this mean? We could see a few storms, possibly with damaging winds and large hail, but these should be short-lived or isolated in nature. It’s not expected to be a widespread severe event. Think more “pop-up, rude guests,” not “full-blown ranger.”

🕚 Timing: 11 AM to 7 PM — right in the daytime heating window, so stay weather-aware through the afternoon hours.

HRRR Model shows it coming into Sumner Co right around 11am and gone by 1pm at latest. After that line comes through, we will most likely be dry for the rest of the day and all eyes turn to Tuesday's Severe Event.

🌪 TUESDAY: This One Deserves Your Attention

Now onto the second image — that’s Tuesday, May 20, and it packs more of a punch.

  • We’ve got a big swath of Level 2 (Slight Risk) again — but notice that bold orange? That’s a Level 3 (Enhanced Risk) covering a good chunk of western and central Middle Tennessee, including Most of us in Sumner, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets moved up to cover all of Sumner by tomorrow's update.

🟠 Translation? Tuesday’s setup looks more widespread, more persistent, and more intense. We’re talking about:

  • Large hail

  • Damaging winds

  • And yes — a tornado or two is possible.

🕒 Timing: Afternoon into the evening. That’s a bigger window, and it’s during those peak hours when instability can do its worst. We will know more about timing later tonight/Tomorrow.

Weather Models show possible individual supercells popping up before main line comes in later.

😰 For the Storm Anxiety Crew

Hey. We see you. And we get it.

Storm anxiety is real. And it doesn't make you weak — it means you care, you’re aware, and you’re trying to stay safe. So, here’s the truth in plain language:

  • Monday: Keep an eye on things, but this is not the kind of setup that usually triggers widespread issues. Some hail and wind, maybe a strong cell or two — but it’s manageable.

  • Tuesday: This one is stronger. But guess what? You’re not powerless. You’ve got tools, you’ve got forecasts, and you’ve got people looking out for you.

  • Totally Random, I am working on a "Concern-O-Meter" for SumnerSevereWx

    - Here are a few names I have picked out:

    • Concern-O-Meter

    • Oh-Crap-O-Meter

    • Nerv-O-Meter

    • Yikes-O-Meter

    • The Danger-o-Meter

    • Sumner’s Storm Stress Scale

      • Let me know which one you like the most! Or if you have a better name!

📲 What To Do:

  • Have multiple ways to get warnings. Phone alerts, weather radio, trusted weather apps. Pick two or three — redundancy is good.

  • Don’t panic-plan. Just plan. Know your safe place. Review it with your family. If you're in a mobile home, talk to someone about where you can go if a warning is issued.

  • Ask questions if you’re confused. No such thing as a dumb one. I am here to answer all questions!

  • Follow local experts you trust (like SumnerSevereWx 😉), and don’t let hype override facts.

💡 Final Thoughts

We are not guaranteed storms on Monday, and on Tuesday, it’s still potential — not a lock-in. Forecasts evolve. Updates happen. The best thing you can do is stay informed, not fearful.

Let’s watch this together, help our neighbors, and remember: Prepared doesn’t mean paranoid. It means peace of mind.

You're not alone out here. Let’s ride this out together.
