Hey There!

All About Me

Hi, I'm Mackenzie, an Atmospheric Science Major born and raised in Middle Tennessee. Since taking over SumnerSevereWx in August 2021, I've had a blast serving the wonderful community of Sumner County, TN!

I have finished my undergrad with a degree in Atmospheric Science. I'm eagerly looking forward to pursuing my master's in meteorology in the current year. My love for weather began in childhood, nurtured by a family friend I called Uncle Carter. Uncle Carter worked at the NWS office in Norman before joining the Nashville office over three decades ago. His passion for weather inspired me deeply, and although he has since passed, his legacy lives on in me.

I've had my fair share of tornado experiences. From the Murfreesboro tornado in 2009 to 2020 Hermitage tornado to the Madison-Hendersonville/Gallatin tornado in 2023 and witnessing the Joplin tornado in 2011 while working at a special needs camp, each event has fueled my passion for severe weather. Our staff even helped with the cleanup after the Joplin tornado, which further ignited my commitment to weather safety and community support.

These experiences have instilled in me a burning passion for severe weather and a dedication to spreading the word when severe weather strikes, as well as helping those in need afterward.

Thanks for joining me on this journey through the skies!
