Active Weather Today

Breakdown of Today’s Weather

Morning Storms have come and gone. They stayed mainly to the North. Portland, Fairfield and Westmoreland Areas were the lottery winners.

Models have been back and forth with storms popping up later this afternoon, but if any storms do develop this afternoon, it won’t change the chances of severe weather later tonight.

What are we looking at for threats?

Main threats:

  • 45-59% chance of strong, straight-line winds (74+ mph, possible)

  • 15-44% chance of large hail (about the size of a quarter or larger)

  • 10-14% chance of a tornado (a strong tornado possible)

This event will mainly be a Damaging Winds Event. But Hail/tornadoes are possible.

Any storm that does develop this afternoon could bring damaging winds, large hail, and possibly tornadoes. I’ll be watching closely.

Timing??

The main storm system is expected to move in between 8 PM and 1 AM—most likely between 9 PM and 11 PM. This line of storms could bring strong winds, heavy rain, and possibly hail or tornadoes.

Latest Models are showing the line knocking on our door right at 10PM, but only again, timing could/will change based on speed of storms.

What to do in the meantime? Get prepared!

  • Know your safe place—a sturdy, enclosed space away from windows

  • Have multiple ways to receive alerts (weather apps, TV, radio, NOAA weather radio, TSpotter Social Media Accounts.)

  • Know where you are on a map—this helps track storms moving toward your area

  • Keep your phone charged in case of power outages

I’ll keep you updated throughout the day. Check my social media for live updates, and if needed, I’ll go live on YouTube for real-time coverage if any warnings are issued for Sumner.

Here's a website that as all my social media links. Please share with your family, friends, neighbors and community. Feel free to post on any FB group!

Stay safe and stay informed—storms can be intimidating, but preparation and awareness help us face them with confidence!
